The Youth Sports Access Gap in San Diego County
Pay-to-play costs have pushed organized sport out of reach for thousands of local families. Combat sports are hit hardest.
Youth sports participation tracks household income almost perfectly. Families earning under $50,000 participate at roughly half the rate of families earning six figures.
Jiu-jitsu compounds the gap: monthly tuition, a gi, competition fees, and travel. A single tournament weekend can cost more than a month of training.
Roll Model Project exists to remove that cost stack for San Diego County families — one kid, one gym, one sponsorship at a time.
