Three Kids on the Mat, One New Partner, and the First Grant

A quiet few months on social media, but not on the mat — three sponsored kids, a new board member, our first grant, and a gym relocation update.

It's been quiet on Instagram and Facebook lately. Not because nothing's happening — because we've been heads-down doing the work instead of posting about it. Time to catch you up.

Three kids are training right now because someone said yes to covering their tuition. That's the whole mission, working exactly as intended.

Adam Mazin, owner of Downtown Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness, joined our board as VP of Community Partnerships. He's building relationships with gyms, schools, and youth organizations across San Diego County — the kind of groundwork that turns a good idea into a real network.

We received our first grant. First institutional funding is a real milestone for a young nonprofit — it means someone outside our own circle looked at what we're building and backed it.

One more update: Kiyoshi Jiu-Jitsu is now Bjorn Martial Arts, operating from a new location. Grand opening details coming soon — we'll share as soon as they're locked in.

None of this happened in a straight line. That's the nature of jiu-jitsu, and it's the nature of building something from nothing: you run into resistance, you work through it, and you come out in a better position than when you started. You don't learn anything from the easy rolls. The struggle is the point — as long as you don't quit.

More sponsorships, more gym partners, and more grants are still ahead. If you know a foundation, a company, or a gym that should hear about this, send them our way.
